With the UK government setting a target to replace the current copper network and make gigabit-capable broadband available to 85% of the country by 2025, Vitrum are actively working toward this ambition with an ethos of “fibre connectivity for everyone,” aiming to ensure no home or business is left behind.
These Gigabit vouchers allow Vitrum to subsidise the larger costs associated with building our full-fibre broadband network in challenging areas, those others have left behind. We can only claim the funding once the property is connected and you validate with BDUK that your service has gone live.
Who is eligible for a gigabit voucher?
Not every location in the UK is eligible for a gigabit voucher, with certain criteria needing to be met before government funding is provided. To be eligible, residents and businesses must:
- No Government or Commercial Plans: There shouldn’t be any existing or planned government-funded or commercial gigabit-capable network deployment in the area.
- No Vacant/Derelict Premises: The premises cannot be vacant, unoccupied, or derelict.
- Not Newly Built: The premises must not have been built in the last two years.
- Group Project (Required): A project must cover at least two eligible premises, with two or more eligible residents and/or businesses using their vouchers towards the shared cost of installation.
- Existing download speeds: available existing broadband download speeds are less than 1Gbps
- Doubling or 100Mbps Minimum: The new connection must at least double the current speed (if current speed is less than 50 Mbps) or be faster than 100 Mbps (if current speed is more than 50 Mbps).
You can find out more about the scheme and who is eligible for a voucher on the government website.
